John Rawa Jr., 86, happiest when surrounded by family

John Rawa Jr., 86, dearly beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend of many, passed away Friday, Dec. 14, 2018, surrounded by his family.

He was born June 28, 1932, in Roslyn, New York, to the late John and Jenny (Minski) Rawa. He was the youngest of four children.

John served as a soldier with distinction for two years in the Korean War. He enjoyed being at home, gardening and building furniture. He always had a project to start and could fix nearly anything.

He lived his 86 years sharing kindness, lending a helping hand to everyone and providing a loving home for his family. John was kind, gracious, appreciative and endearing. A devoted husband, he was happiest when surrounded by his family, and in earlier years, enjoyed supporting their activities. He attended athletic games, school functions, dance recitals and performances always encouraging and cheering on grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Angelina; daughters, Lynn and Catherine; son, Mark; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, who will cherish his memory and strive to live by the examples he set. He is also survived by sisters, Florence and Helen, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews who loved him dearly. He was preceded in by his son, John; sister, Viola; and parents, John and Jenny.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 18, at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel, 1617 Market St., Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in honor of John Rawa to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1406 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
