Veda Doss, 85, enjoyed volunteering at Dosher Thrift Shop

OAK ISLAND — Dr. Veda Doss, 85, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2018, at her home.

Dr. Doss was born was born April 19, 1933, in India, daughter of the late John Christo Doss and Krishnammal Veda Nayagam. She was a professor of economics at Wingate University from 1984 to 1999 until her retirement.

After retirement, she and her late husband George Fitzpatrick moved to Oak Island. While living in Oak Island, she enjoyed volunteering at Dosher Thrift Shop in Southport and painting seascapes. She was an animal lover and especially enjoyed the companionship they provided in the past few years.

Preceding her in death was her husband, George Fitzpatrick; and several brothers and sisters.

Survivors include her son, Christo Fitzpatrick, and his wife, Branda, of Indian Trail; and two grandchildren, Emerson Sara Fitzpatrick of Indian Trail and Caleb Kiran Pike of Matthews; sister, Christie Bhasker of India; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 24, at Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral and Cremation Service, Southport. Inurnment will follow in Cape Fear Memorial Park.
