WILMINGTON — Irene Joyce Carter Milligan, 89, passed away Monday, Nov. 5, 2018, at Liberty Commons Nursing Center.
Born Nov. 30, 1928, in Robeson County, she was the daughter of the late Glen Carter and Retha Surles Carter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Laris Layton Milligan; as well as her siblings, Frank Carter, Bobby Carter and Minnie Stevens.
She is survived by her children, Dr. Laris Wayne Milligan, and his wife, Gwen, and Sandra Milligan Gray, and her husband, Dwight; granddaughter, Brittany Gray Jackway, and her husband, Andy; brother, Maurice Carter; and extended family.
Mrs. Milligan was a member of Masonboro Baptist Church. She retired from Timme Corporation after 25 years of service. Irene enjoyed crafts and gardening, but she will be remembered most as a loving wife, mother and mom-mom.
A visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 8, at Andrews Valley Chapel with a funeral service beginning at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow at 2 p.m. in the Smith Family Cemetery, Ash.
