PEORIA, Illinois — Steven Robert Vandal, 51, passed away May 20, 2018.

He was born Aug. 13, 1966, in Rhode Island. Steve was raised in Berkley, Massachusetts, and attended Taunton Schools.

Steven enjoyed Karate, football and weight lifting. He was a black belt in Karate, played high school football and maintained a healthy physical physique.

Steven served his country with honor and distinction in the U.S. Army overseas in Iraq as a specialist. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service, Dedication to Duty and Outstanding Performance in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 06-08. Steven’s dedication to his country is deeply appreciated.

Steven enjoyed life very much. He loved music, games and time with friends and family. Above all he loved all his children very much.

He leaves his sons, Joshua Vandal of New Hampshire, Shane Vandal of Massachusetts and Michael Benoit of New Hampshire; daughter, Danielle Rice of Leland; grandchildren, Dustin, Jullian and Liam; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his mother, father, sister and brother.

He will be missed by all who knew him and truly loved him.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 21, at the Wilmington Funeral & Cremation Village Road Chapel, 525 Village Road, Leland. In recognition of Steven’s honorable and faithful service to his country, a rendering of Military Honors will be presented by the U.S. Army.
