Eddie Dale Hewett, 71, retired from DuPont Chemical Plant

SHALLOTTE — Eddie Dale Hewett, 71, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2018, in Greeneville, Tennessee.

He was born July 7, 1947, in Southport, the son of the late Rufus Galloway Hewett and Eva Pearl Stanley. He was preceded in death by a nephew, Bryan B. Owens.

Eddie was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during the Vietnam Conflict. He worked with DuPont Chemical Plant for many years until his retirement. Eddie loved life and was a lifetime resident of Brunswick County and member of Sabbath Home Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Margurita C. Hewett of the home; daughter, Allison Tyson of Wilmington; granddaughter, Taylor Tanton of Wilmington; brother, Freddy Hewett, and his wife, Diane, of Shallotte; two sisters, Donna Prince also of Shallotte and Kathy Owens, and her husband, Ben, of Supply; several loved nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and one grand-nephew; two sisters-in law, Debbie, and her husband, Dennis Chapman, and Sharon Brown, both of Greenville, Tennessee; one brother-in-law, Wayne A. Chandler of Nashville, Tennessee; a very special friend for many years, Gene Hardee of Ocean Isle Beach; and many special friends.

A celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 29, at Jennies Branch Baptist Church with the Rev. Landis Lancaster and the Rev. Britten Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. There will be time of visitation from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
