Margaret Devohn Murray, 91, former member of Seagate Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary

WILMINGTON — Margaret Devohn Murray, 91, a resident of Seagate, passed away Monday, Sept. 17, 2018. She was born July 31, 1927, to the late Nina Brent Wooten and Howard Rhodes Hewitt in Maple Hill.

In her earlier years, she was an active member in the Seagate Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and enjoyed making ceramics and pottery where she would give classes at her home for family and friends. She also enjoyed selling shrimp in her backyard “shrimp house” to the public because in her words, “I meet a lot of really nice people.” Her real passion was her family. Her home was the hub of activity for most all holidays, where she got a lot of attention and love.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, George Daniel Murray Sr.; grandsons, Clinton Daniel Robichaux and Mathew Scott Murray; sisters, Evelyn Melton, Mary Martin and Rebecca Harris; and brothers, Allen Hewitt and David Hewitt.

She is survived by her loving children, Patricia Hardison, and her husband, Fred, of Holly Ridge, and their children, Stuart and Kim Moseley (children, Taylor and Montgomery); George Murray, and his wife, Phyllis of Leland, and their children, Chris Murray (Elizabeth) and Misty Peliciotta (Rob) (children, Jordan and Chandler), Peggy Barnhill, and her husband, Doug, of Holly Ridge, and Kellie Smith (Pete), daughter of Peggy Barnhill and Chuck Robichaux (children, Trey and Graylon); Phillip Murray of Wilmington and Starr Murray (children, Finn and Scout), son of Phillip Murray and Joann Lewis, and daughter Alisha, daughter of Phillip Murray and Donna Murray. She is also survived by her loving sister, Delorise Heath of Tampa, Florida, and her children, Brenda Tyler, Silvia McKinney and William Earl Heath.

Margaret requested a simple service for her family and close friends. The family wishes to thank all of those who expressed to the family their heartfelt love and condolences. For those who have known Margaret and family in her fruitful journey with us, her graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Sept. 28, at Coble-Ward Funeral Home, Oleander Drive, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting any charitable gift be made out to the Leland Area Rotary Club, who supports Alzheimer’s disease.
