Retired U.S. Army Sgt. Maj. John Wallace Jenkins, 60, died peacefully at home Sunday, Aug. 12, 2018.
In the U.S. Army for over 30 years, John was born in Virginia Beach in 1958, and served a distinguished career in South West Asia, Korea, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Iraq.
Over the years, he was presented with the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, Army Achievement Medal, Korean Defense Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, South West Asia Service Medal with Bronze Star, and many other accolades for his service.
John leaves behind his wife of 17 years, Rebecca Ayers Jenkins; devoted daughter, Jina Armia; and son, Travis Jenkins.
Graveside services will be held 1 p.m., Friday, Aug. 17, at Greenlawn Memorial Park with full military honors.
Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
