Gladys Jean Cliff, 63, selfless and fearless advocate for others

WILMINGTON — Gladys Jean Cliff, 63, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2018.

Born June 10, 1955, in Barre, Vermont, she was the daughter of the late Grover and Pearl Chase.

She is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, James Cliff; four daughters, Melissa Ridgeway, Carrie Cliff, Myra Cliff and Leslie Winner; son, Ryan Cliff; 10 grandchildren; brother, Jim Chase; and sisters, Julie Chase, and preceded in death by, Susan Larkin.

Jean was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed crocheting, making jewelry and spending time with her husband and grandchildren. She was compassionate, kind, beautiful and always with a smile on her face. She would frequently say how proud she was of her family. She was selfless and fearless, devoting 15 years of her life to advocate, and care for her grandson, who has cerebral palsy. A role she took on with such determination, persistence and dedication.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 12, with the Rev. Albert Cliff officiating, at The Church of God, 246 Middle Sound Loop Road, Wilmington.
