HAMPSTEAD — Archie Hilburn McLeod Jr., 67, passed away Friday, Aug. 10, 2018, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCare Center.
Archie was born Feb. 12, 1951, at Fort Dix, New Jersey, the son of the late Archie Hilburn McLeod Sr. and Susan Alice Buie McLeod. He retired from DuPont as a chemical engineer and was working at Pine Valley United Methodist Church until his health would not permit, where he and his wife are devoted longtime members. He grew up in Robinson County and moved to Wilmington in 1969, where he and his wife made their home and raised their family.
Surviving are his wife of 44 years Shirley Burnside McLeod; son, Daniel Jason McLeod, and his wife, Jessica, of Fort Mill, South Carolina; daughters, Kelly M. Bourgeois, and her husband, Todd, and Maggie M. Johnson, and her husband, Jake, all of Wilmington; sisters, Catherine J. Perrell and Marcia E. Pinyan, both of Charlotte, and Mary Anne Crawford of Wilmington; grandchildren, Rowan McLeod, Olivia Bourgeois and Dawson Johnson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m., Monday, Aug. 13, at Pine Valley United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Timothy Reaves officiating. The family will greet friends during a reception following the service. Burial will follow at 4 p.m. in the family burial plot, Philadelphus Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Red Springs.
