Orloff Levin Lake, 90, retired Episcopal priest

WILMINGTON — Orloff Levin Lake, 90, a resident of Plantation Village, entered the life eternal Friday, July 20, 2018.

Levin was born Aug. 3, 1927, to the late Levin Lake Sr. and Hallie Walker of Chattanooga, Tennessee. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, Dallas, Texas, in 1945, and served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific. After getting his degree from Southern Methodist University, he graduated from Seabury-Western Theological Seminary in 1952, with the degree of Master of Sacred Theology. That same year, he was ordained a priest of the Episcopal Church and was married to Margaret (Marge) Vollmer.

Levin served Episcopal parishes in Fort Worth Texas, and in the Chicago area for 38 years, building a church edifice in Clarendon Hills, Illinois, and serving for 25 years as rector of St. Edward the Martyr parish in Joliet, Illinois. He also served as dean of the Joliet Deanery.

Upon retiring, he and Marge moved to their vacation home near Hayward, Wisconsin, where they lived until moving to Plantation Village in 2000. Levin was active at the Village, serving as chairman of the Building and Grounds Committee for three years and as president of the Resident Council. He also served three years as a member of the board of directors.

After Marge’s death, Levin married Jean Marie Walthall in 2009, who preceded him in death in 2017. He is survived by his children Michael, Peter and Peggi and their spouses, and by five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral rites will be held at  11 a.m., Friday, July 27, at St. Andrew’s On-the-Sound Episcopal Church, 101 Airlie Road.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Levin’s memory to St. Andrew’s On-the-Sound will be much appreciated.
