WILMINGTON — Mr. Harry W. Yenner, 98, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, June 21, 2018.
He was born April 7, 1920, in Hopewell, New Jersey, to Harry Yenner and Etta Bowers Yenner, both deceased. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Kenmore Yenner, in 2017.
Harry was a World War II veteran, lifetime member with the American Legion Post 129, and actively involved in the Katie B. Hines Senior Center since its origination. Harry moved to Carolina Beach in 1981 because of how much it reminded him of the Jersey shore and loved it as much as he loved the friends he made here. Whether it was attending the Fish Fry at the American Legion, or playing cards and line dancing at the Katie B. Hines Senior Center, he continuously showed his support and enjoyed every minute of it.
He is survived by his daughters, Marie Mauro of Sicklerville, New Jersey, and Diann Burkhardt (Gerald) of Carolina Beach; son, Wayne Yenner of Wilmington; eight grandchildren, Donna Mauro and John (Jennifer) of Sicklerville, New Jersey, Phil (Luz) Mauro of Georgia, Whitney Yenner of Leland, Christopher Burkhardt and Julie Burkhardt, both of Charleston, South Carolina, and Jason (Crystal) Burkhardt and Courtney Burkhardt, both of Wilmington; and five great-grandchildren, Olivia, Isabella and Natalia Mauro and Axton Burkhardt and Kimbrel Lunsford.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, June 27, at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral and Cremation Service. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 28, at the funeral home with assistance from the American Legion Post 129. Burial will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens.
