WILMINGTON — George G. Hinson Jr., 66, passed away Saturday, May 19, 2018.

George was born Nov. 19, 1951, in Columbus County and had lived in Wilmington for several years. He had been employed as a long distance truck driver and had worked at F.W. Groves and Ploof Trucking for many years and later for Coastal Trucking until his retirement. He was known on the road by his C.B. handle “Carolina Rebel.”

George was a Mason for many years and a member of the Orient Lodge No. 395, where he held the position of Tyler and had received the Tyler of Distinction Award.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George G. Hinson Sr. and Dixie Hewett Hinson; and brother, Troy Lynn Hinson.

He is survived by his sisters, Sandra Brown, and her husband, Morris, and Clara Dennis, and her husband, Mike. He also leaves a very special niece, Natalie Nicole Merck.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, May 22, at the Wilmington Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 23, at the Wilmington Funeral Chapel with Pastor Dodd Mays officiating. Interment, with Masonic rites, will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
