
WILMINGTON — Gandolfo “Murphy” DeVenuto, 92, died Sunday, May 13, 2018, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
He was born Nov. 12, 1925, in Newark, New Jersey, to the late Calogero DeVenuto and Grazia Paraula DeVenuto.
Murphy was raised in Palermo, Sicily, and moved to NYC, where he met his wife of almost 70 years. He was a mason by trade and a caretaker by heart. He was the patriarch of our family, the backbone and seed of which we all relied on and grew.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Andrew Mezzela.
Survivors include his wife, Josephine; daughters, Grace and Anne; sons-in-law, Ed and Pete; granddaughter, Giosina; grandsons, Daniel, Marc and John; great-grandsons, Andrew and Gio; and great-granddaughters, Autumn, Jade and Lily.
The family will receive visitors from 4 to 6 p.m., Thursday, May 17, at Andrews Valley Chapel, 4108 S. College Road, Wilmington. A funeral Mass will be held at 9 a.m., Friday, May 18, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 6650 Carolina Beach Road, Wilmington.
