SOUTHPORT — D.J. Starnes, 65, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, April 3, 2018.
D.J. was born May 27, 1952, son of the late Lloyd Starnes and Nora Marsh Starnes. He worked in construction for many years in Oak Island and Southport. He liked to joke around and make people laugh.
D.J. met the love of his life, Rita; they dated 27 days before getting married. They married Jan. 28, 1972, and were married 45 years. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many. He will truly be missed, but now he is home with his sweetheart. D.J. was preceded in death by his wife, Rita; and one brother, Odis Starnes.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Donald James Starnes (Barbara) of Southport and Joyce Starnes of Jacksonville; brothers, Lester Starnes (Libby) and Cotton Starnes (Carol), both of Monroe; sister-in-law, Elaine Starnes of Monroe; five grandchildren, Jamey Starnes, Briana Starnes, Amy Starnes, Johnny Bailey and McKenzie Minx; and one great-granddaughter, Lacie Ann Starnes.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 21, at Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral and Cremation Service, Southport.
