Richard Joseph ‘Dick’ Lynch, 73, employed with DuPont for more than 30 years

BOLIVIA — Richard Joseph “Dick” Lynch, 73, of the Sunset Harbor community, passed away Monday, March 26, 2018.

Mr. Lynch was born Oct. 25, 1944, to the late Edwin and Helen Lynch. He was a graduate of Parkersburg High School in Parkersburg, W.Va. Dick was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Sampson during the Cuban blockade. He also served as a member of the Naval Honor Guard for the funeral of President John F. Kennedy.

Mr. Lynch worked 30-plus years for DuPont. Very active in his churches, he was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Southport, N.C., and a former member of Wayside United Methodist Church in Vienna, W.Va.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Janet Lynch; son, Donald Lynch, and his wife, Leslie, of Yacolt, Wash.; brother, Thomas Lynch, and his wife, Regina; three grandchildren, Mollie Wright, Macie Tenney and Gabriella Fenison; two great-grandchildren, Jack Lynch and Annabell Tenney; sister-in-law, Charlotte Atkinson, and her husband, Rick; two brothers-in-law, Edward L. Strother, and his wife, Judy, and Michael Strother, and his wife, Colleen. He is also survived by his dog, Toby. Dick was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Lynch.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 4, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Southport.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 209 E. Nash St., Southport, NC 28461.
