WILMINGTON — Herbert J. “Jerry” Hazard, 74, went to be his Lord and Savior Wednesday, March 28, 2018, while visiting his children and grandchildren in Salisbury, N.C.
Jerry was born March 22, 1944, in Wilmington, N.C., to the late Herbert Joseph Hazard and Verbee Hazard Severe. He served in the U.S. Army as a master sergeant from 1962 to 1968. He proudly served as a drill instructor for the 82nd Airborne Division and the 101st Airborne Division. He was a talented pilot and loved all things aviation and had a passion for photography and technology. Jerry was a loving father, doting grandfather and devoted friend with a servant’s heart.
Jerry is survived by his three children, Mark Hazard (Leslie), Marlena Johnson (Terlin) and Mylinda Duncan (Deon); the mother of his children, Merle Fox; grandchildren, Hannah Duncan, Alex Duncan (Maranda), William Johnson, Catherine Johnson, Stephen Johnson and Rachel Johnson; great-grandson, Mason Duncan; sister, Eunice Marie Hamm (James); stepfather, Jack Severe (Vivian); nieces, Debbie Lanagan (Kenny) and Verbee Sensei; and nephews, Joe Marino (Celina) and James Shepherd.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m., Monday, April 2, at Coble Ward Smith, 3915 Oleander Drive. A funeral service will begin at 3 p.m. at the chapel with Pastor Randy Roberts officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow at 3:45 p.m. in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 1311 Shipyard Blvd., Wilmington, N.C.
