Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Bradshaw, 92, volunteered at New Hanover Regional Medical Center for 43 years

WILMINGTON — Elizabeth “Betty” Bradshaw, 92, passed away Thursday, March 22, 2018.

She graduated from Westhampton College of the University of Richmond in 1948 with a B.S. in psychology. She was married for 33 years to Colonel Marion A. Bradshaw and was instrumental in his 30-year Air Force career and the social requirements of his position throughout the U.S. and overseas until his death in 1982.

She volunteered for 43 years as a patient advocate at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. In 2008, she received an outstanding service award from the N.C. Volunteer Commission on Volunteerism and Community Service. She was also a Red Cross volunteer in other hospitals with over 9000 hours of service. She had a friendly, warm, and generous personality with not only friends, family and neighbors, but also with casual acquaintances she knew by name.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Barbara Bradshaw Kidd, and her husband, David, of Wilmington; and son, Thomas S. Bradshaw, and his wife, Marcy, of Tempe, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Florence Hengeveld of Wrightsville Beach.

A service will be at 3 p.m., Monday, March 26, at Oleander Memorial Gardens, 306 Bradley Drive, Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New Hanover Regional Medical Center Foundation, 2259 S. 17th St.,
Wilmington, NC 28401; or the American Red Cross.
