SHALLOTTE — Mary Hawes Lewis, 79, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, March 17, 2018, at Castle Creek Memory Care in Castle Hayne, N.C.
Mrs. Lewis was born Aug. 27, 1938, in Columbus County, N.C., the daughter the late Rev. Hannie Hawes and Lula Butler Hawes. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Richard Lewis Sr.; three sisters, Helen Mayers, Pauline Inman and Doris Herring; and two brothers, Danny Lee Hawes and Don Archie Hawes.
Mary worked for many years at Lloyd Milliken’s Oyster House at the Village Point. An avid gardener, she also worked at the Garden Center at Walmart.
Surviving are three children, Richard Lewis Jr., and his fiancée, Lynn Carlisle, Teresa Tindal, and her husband, Bobby, and Gary Lewis, and his fiancée, Debbie, all of Shallotte; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Carrie Todd, and her husband, Kim, of Bladenboro and Lisa Hawes Harden of Shallotte.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, March 19, at White Funeral and Cremation Service, Shallotte Chapel, 3660 Express Drive Shallotte. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, March 20, at Sharon United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Tim Carter officiating.
