LELAND — Frederick Dow “Rick” Lyon Jr., 70, passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 13, 2018, with his wife and best friend, Kathy, at his side.
Rick was born in Malden, Mass., to his father, Frederick Lyon, and mother, Joan Benson. He loved and admired his father as well as his stepmother, Helen “Betty” Lyon.
At the age of 17, Rick enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served proudly for four years. After his service, he went on to earn his B.A. from Rutgers University and MPA from Seton Hall. Rick worked as a police officer in Bridgewater Township, N.J., for 28 years. Upon retiring, he relocated with his family to Leland, N.C., and worked for the U.S. Army at Sunny Point. In his retirement, he enjoyed his time playing golf and poker with his buddies.
Rick was a very proud and loving father of his two sons, Josh of Omaha, and Paul of Denver. In addition to his wife and sons, he is survived by his sister-in-law, Marguerite Mokar; brother-in-law, Stanley Mokar; and niece and nephew, Jason and Janis.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m., Monday, March 19, at Andrews Valley Chapel, 4108 South College Road, Wilmington.
