WILMINGTON — Joseph Clyde Knox Jr., 84, passed away peacefully Monday, March 5, 2018, in the loving company of his wife and daughters. Born Nov. 10, 1933, in Raleigh, N.C., he was the son of Dr. Joseph C. Knox and Martha Cox Knox.

Joe graduated from Valley Forge Military Academy, High Point University and received his master’s degree from Northwestern. He was a member of Phi Kappa Alpha fraternity.

Joe worked for First Citizens Bank Trust Department for 32 years. After retirement, he was past master of St. John’s Lodge No. 1 A.F. & A.M. and past secretary of the Scottish Rite, Valley of Wilmington.

Joe was coronated an inspector general honorary 33 Degree Scottish Rite Mason. In addition, he was the secretary/treasurer of North Carolina Scottish Rite Masonic Foundation Inc. Joe loved stamp and coin collecting and anything related to American war history.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, June Rogers Knox of Wilmington, N.C.; three daughters, Allison Devechio (John) of Swansboro, N.C., Susie Ford (Gil) of Cary, N.C., and Nancy Jo Spear (Deven) of Raleigh, N.C. He has six much-loved grandchildren, Marti Cheek, Will Cheek, Cole Ford, Madison Ford, Kenan Spear and Noah Spear.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, March 9, at Grace United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Patricia DiGiuseppe and the Rev. Tal Madison. A reception with the family will follow in the Fellowship Hall.
