Betty Athelia Summerlin Lockamy, 91, enjoyed crabbing and fishing with her family

Betty Athelia Summerlin Lockamy, 91, went to her heavenly home, Saturday, Feb. 10, 2018.

She was born in Wilmington to the late Charles Wilson Summerlin and Mary Pearl Bowen. Betty was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed caring for her family. In her younger years, she loved being on the water, enjoying fishing and crabbing with family and friends.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life, and husband of 63 years, James Lockamy; and grandchildren, Pamela Mintz and James Croom.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, James Lockamy Jr.; daughters, Sue Lockamy and Terry Lockamy Croom; granddaughter, Kandy Croom Jones, and her husband, Britton; grandson-in-law, Craig Mintz; great-grandchildren, Aaron Mintz and Ashlynn Mintz; and great-great-grandchild, Kaylee Meares.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 13, at the Seagate Cemetery 52nd Street, Wilmington. Chaplain Gabriella Hieb will officiate services. A visitation will precede the graveside service at 1 p.m. at Quinn McGowen Wilmington Chapel. Visitation will be held at other times at her home. Flowers in Betty’s honor are welcome.

The family would like to give special thanks to Sharon Johnson for all the help she provided Betty and her family. They would also like to thank the hospice care staff for the loving and excellent care they gave Betty.
