CASTLE HAYNE — Michael Austin Whaley Jr., 31, passed suddenly Friday, Feb. 2, 2018. Austin was born Jan. 6, 1987, in Wilmington, N.C., son of the late Michael Austin Whaley Sr. and Regina Whaley Spaulding.
An avid hunter and gun enthusiast, Austin enjoyed mudding with his sister and friends. Austin also enjoyed Southern fried food chased with Dr. Pepper, Criminal Minds, Grey Goose, grilling and cooking.
He is survived by his mother, Regina (Whaley) Spaulding; stepfather, Rick Spaulding; sister, Lauren Whaley, and her fiance, Bobby Sipple; only niece, Madison Grace Sipple; maternal grandmother, Cecilia Horrell; and stepbrother, Aaron Spaulding. Also survived by his beloved dog, Amber, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Michael Austin Whaley Sr.; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. David Whaley; and stepbrother, Jason Spaulding.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 8, at Andrews Market Street Chapel. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service beginning at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Park, Wallace.
