Lucy Mae Stone, 82, led the Women’s Missionary Union at Sabbath Home Baptist Church

SUPPLY — Lucy Mae Stone, 82, of Supply, passed away Sunday, Jan. 14, 2018, at Carillon Assisted Living Center in Southport.

Mrs. Stone was born June 5, 1935, daughter of the late William Jesse Wofford and Zora Ether Coley Wofford.

She showed her strong Christian faith as a member of Sabbath Home Baptist Church where she was very involved. She was a deaconess, led the Women’s Missionary Union, sang in the choir and led the XYZ group. She was extremely proud that her two sons followed her Christian example by becoming ministers.

Mrs. Stone was also a member of the Red Hat Society. She never met a stranger and everyone was welcome in her home as she loved to cook delicious meals.

Her strong work ethic showed in the many years she raised her six children while continuing to work full time. Her children were always taught to be strong and stand up for themselves while always be loving and kind.

Survivors include her loving husband of 66 years, Jack Stone of Supply; children, Hazel Swoope, and her husband, Thomas, E. Miriam Matteotti of Southport, Pastor James Stone, and his wife, Elaine, of Fredericksburg, Va., Pastor Donald Stone, and his wife, Linda, of Chantilly, Va., Debbie Kettering, and her husband, Rodger, of Mooresville and Karen Clark, and her husband, Rodger, of Mooresville; brothers, Ralph Wofford, and his wife, Doreen, of Sanford and Max Wofford, and his wife, Patsy, of Greensboro; sister-in-law, Faye Wofford of Sanford; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at noon Friday, Jan. 19, at Sabbath Home Baptist Church with burial following in Sabbath Home Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon prior to services at the church.
