Annie Louise Black, 91, admired for her loyalty

WILMINGTON — Annie Louise Black, 91, went to be with the Lord Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017.

She was born Feb. 8, 1926, in Dunbar, S.C., to Della Hamer Stanton and Thomas Jefferson Stanton. She was preceded in death by her sister, Nancy Dell Perry of Columbia, S.C.; and husband, Robert Cooper Black of Wilmington, N.C.

She is survived by one brother, Thomas Stanton, and his wife, Paula, of Waterloo, S.C.; three children, Della Black Benson, and her husband, Mike, of Union, S.C., Mary Black O’Connor, and her husband, Fred, of Dana Point, Calif., and Robert Cooper Black, and his wife, Patty, of Wilmington, N.C.; six grandchildren, Robin Brewington, John Railey, Kimberly Garzia, Jeff Benson, Brandi O’Connor and Ann Somsen; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; and very special friends, Roger Jensen and Sandee Spradley.

She was admired by her family and friends for her energy and loyalty. She loved working in her garden and grew beautiful flowers and vegetables which she freely shared. Bird watching was a favorite pastime, and she had many feeders and houses for them. She was also a seamstress and made many beautiful things over the years.

She was a member of The Church of the Nazarene most of her life, but found and loved Ogden Baptist Church in her senior years.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 4, 2018, at Ogden Baptist Church with the Rev. Danny Justice officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Annie’s memory to Ogden Baptist Church, 7121 Market St., Wilmington, NC 28411.
