It is with great sadness that the family of Susan Cathrine Edens, 43, announces her passing on Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017, at NHRMC with her family by her side from complications due to liver failure.

She is survived by her mother, Cathy Helen Bennett; father, Robert James Edens, and his wife, Beverly; brother, James Allen Edens (Jae), all of Wilmington; two half-brothers, R. Crews Edens of Raleigh, N.C., and Hunter G. Edens of Phoenix, Ariz.; half-sister, Rachel A. Edens of Wilmington, N.C.; grandmother, Helen Hawley Bennett of Wilmington, N.C.; and numerous other extended family members.

Susan was born on May 13, 1974, in Wilmington, N.C., and grew up in Wilmington and Wrightsville Beach, graduating from Laney High School in 1992. Susan worked in sales and the food service industry throughout her life. In her free time, she enjoyed art, especially drawing, and swimming. She was a very sweet and generous person with a forever-young heart. Susan loved time spent with her brother, Jae, watching movies and visiting friends and family. She also loved her younger half-siblings, always taking an interest in their lives.

Susan’s faith in our Lord, Jesus Christ, sustained her throughout several health challenges and in the end, she passed peacefully and with dignity.

The family would like to thank the staff of NHRMC, especially the caregivers in ICU and PCU, for their loving care. The family would also like to thank friends and family for their prayers, calls, texts, and kind deeds throughout Susan’s last weeks.

A funeral service in memory of Susan will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 22, at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel with the Rev. Patrick A. Keane officiating. A private interment will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens.
