Donna Sollinger Meinert, 70, basketmaker with Poplar Grove Plantation for 20 years

WILMINGTON — Donna Sollinger Meinert, 70, died Friday, Sept. 1, 2017, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCare Center.

Donna was born April 10, 1947, in Pittsburgh, Penn., daughter of the late John and Marie Celeste Sollinger.

Donna worked in the steel industry in Pittsburgh until she married Thomas Meinert on Oct. 2, 1976. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Wilmington in 1977. She was a homemaker until her children got a little older, she then became a basketmaker with Poplar Grove Plantation for 20 years.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Tom Meinert; two daughters, Mandy and Kacie Meinert; grandson, Caleb Phelps; niece and nephew, Renee and Robert McCafferty; cousin, Phylliss Wilson; and best friend, B.J. Ryan.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Sept. 8, at Andrews Hampstead Chapel with the Rev. Bob Kus officiating. Prior to the service, the family will greet friends from 1 to 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Donna’s memory toward the Hurricane Harvey disaster relief efforts in Houston online through the American Red Cross.
