Allen Ray “Cowboy” Sanders Jr. passed away Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2017, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He was born Nov. 14, 1965, at Pender Memorial Hospital, Burgaw, N.C. He passed out at 2:30 a.m., July 22, 2017, and fell backwards and hit his head on the floor.
He was preceded in death by his loving fiancee, Donna Marie Truitt; father, Allen Ray Sanders Sr.; maternal grandparents, Neil and Flossie Thomas; paternal grandparents, “Sap” and Hazel Sanders, all of Hampstead.
He is survived by his loving mother, Janice Thomas of Hampstead; loving sister, Lisa Marie Sanders, and her husband, Tobe Sanders, of Hampstead; two children, Jaliese Redman and Daniel Davis; two nieces, Christie Sanders and Samantha Sanders; one nephew, Michael Sanders; two great-nieces Gabby and Paisley; uncles, James Thomas, and his wife, Linda, Cecil Thomas, John Sanders, and his wife, Christine, and Billy Sanders Sr., and his wife, Pam, all of Hampstead; and several cousins.
Allen Ray was loved by everyone. He served on the Hampstead Fire Department and the Hampstead Rescue Squad. He worked on a golf course all of his adult life. He was the “chief in charge” of the irrigation system at Belvedere Golf Course, Hampstead.
He will be missed by all, especially his mother.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Aug. 11, at Andrews Mortuary Hampstead Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 12, at Topsail Presbyterian Church, Hampstead. Services will be officiated by reverends Jake Young, Buddy Dowd and Steve Spearing. Interment will follow in Sea Lawn Cemetery, Hampstead. Honorary pallbearers are Andrew Stephens and David Bullard. Pallbearers are Michael Sanders, Billy Sanders Jr., Chris Thomas, Richie Millis, Kevin Hollis and Bernard Howell.
