HAMPSTEAD — James Arnold Brown Jr., 79, left this earthly life for his eternal rest Sunday, July 9, 2017, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
He was born Aug. 27, 1937, in Cumberland County and was the son of the late James A. Brown Sr. and Edith Dixon Brown. He was preceded in death by his son, Gregory Allen Brown; brother, Larry Allen Brown; and sisters, Libby Ezzell and Edith Ann Hall.
James proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy and later went to work at the U.S. Naval Hospital until retirement.
Surviving are his best friend and wife of 59 years, Dorothy Casteen Brown; sons, Jimmy Dean Brown, and his wife, Kris, of Hampstead and Gregory Allen Brown of Hampstead; his daughters, Wendy Sandlin, and her husband, Jack of Burgaw, and Michelle Renee Brown of Wilmington; grandson, Tye Sandlin; brother, Danny Lee Brown of Teachey; special friend, Clyde Lovette of Wallace; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
James was a simple man who was loved and respected by all who knew him. He loved the water and enjoyed living on the water. His favorite pastime was watching the boats that went up and down the waterway with his “scope.”
Although a man of few words, James would always let you know how he felt and was always up front with everyone. James was a hard worker and a die-hard Republican, who loved to talk politics. Being a perfectionist and a very original creator, he could make anything. James was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother whose life was taking care of his family. James will surely be missed, but treasured memories of him will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 11, at Rockfish Memorial Cemetery, Wallace, N.C.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you send memorial gifts to the charity of your choice in memory of James.
