Elizabeth J. Zegan, 83, world-renowned pine needle basket weaver

SHALLOTTE — Elizabeth J. Zegan, 83, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 20, 2017. Born in New Jersey Oct. 11, 1933, she was a daughter to the late Joseph Jordan and Anna Owgonowski Jordan. She was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Joseph Zegan.

She worked as a registered nurse and retired after 55 years of service. After winning her fight with cancer, she continued in her service to others as a counselor. She was a founding member of St. Brendan the Navigator Roman Catholic Church and remained very active in the church as a Eucharistic minister and a Columbiette. She was also a world-renowned pine needle basket weaver whose work can be found all over the world.

She leaves behind a daughter, Theresa Reiter (Steve), and grandson, Kevin, of Supply, N.C.; brother, Joseph Jordan (Terry) of Tampa, Fla.; sister-in-law, Elaine Lowell (Yogi) of Seattle, Wash.; as well as many, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 27, at St. Brendan the Navigator Roman Catholic Church, Shallotte.
