
WILMINGTON — Charles C. Gray, 86, passed away Sunday, March 19, 2017, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice surrounded by his loving family.
Born June 15, 1930, in Clay County, Kentucky, he is a son of the late Roscoe and Sarah Patterson Gray. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
Mr. Gray is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary Elizabeth Gray; son, Jerry Daniel Gray; daughters, Dena Gray Simmons, and her husband, Delane, and Donna Gray Putnam, and her husband, Brady; grandchildren, Ethan Simmons, and his wife, Kelly, Becci Johnson, and her husband, Brett, Brannon Gray, Ryan Putnam, and his wife, Gabriela, and Christine Putnam; and great-grandchildren, Stella Johnson and Ayden Simmons.
Mr. Gray was proud to serve and retire as chief BMC in the Coast Guard. He enjoyed lighthouses and maps. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, at Andrews Valley Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
