Helen Brignac Carter, 91, enjoyed volunteering and baking

SOUTHPORT — Helen Brignac Carter, 91, formerly from Lexington, N.C., and currently living in Southport, N.C., went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017.

She was born in Concord on April 12, 1925, the daughter of the late Alice Myers Sehorn and Joseph Sehorn. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry J. Brignac; two sons, John Brignac and Nick Brignac; two brothers, Harold Sehorn and Melvin Sehorn; and a sister, Gaynell Porter.

Mrs. Carter was a longtime member of Meadowview Reformed Presbyterian Church in Lexington, N.C. She retired after 25 years from Henry Link Furniture Industries in Lexington. After her retirement, she volunteered for two years at the Life Center for Adults in Lexington. She enjoyed her volunteer work and also loved visiting friends from church and members in nursing homes. She also enjoyed baking cookies and cakes for her neighbors and church functions. She loved her flowers and gardening.

Surviving are children, Janie McClellan, and her husband, Barry, of Ocean Isle Beach, N.C., Kathy Embler, and her husband, Mickey, of Southport, N.C., Debra Tarleton and Ron of Southport, N.C., and Steve Brignac, and his wife, Linda, of Lakeland, Fla.; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 20, at White Funeral and Cremation Service, Shallotte Chapel, 3660 Express Drive, Shallotte, with Pastor Rory Thigpen officiating. There will be a brief gathering of family and friends at the funeral home prior to the service.
