Retired U.S. Army Wilbur Pierce Mintz Sr., 74, died peacefully at his home Friday, Jan. 13, 2017.
Wilbur served his country proudly, including two tours in Vietnam, and was also stationed in France, Germany and Turkey, as well as other bases in the states, with his happiest being at Fort Bragg. He was a humble, hardworking man who touched many lives with his generosity and unique sense of humor. He also spent many hours on the golf course, some days more enjoyable than others.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Gladys Mintz; sister, Vickie Wheeless; and son, Wilbur P. “Charlie” Mintz Jr.
Wilbur is survived by his wife of 26 years, Mary Lou; brothers, Arnold (Krista), Billy (Carolyn) and Jesse (Nancy); children, Denise, Michelle and Travis (Kathy); stepsons, Rob (Alison) and Rus Nipper (Nikki); daughter-in-law, Michelle; and 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
The family would also like to thank Dr. Elijah Gregory and Dr. Christian Lloyd for their compassion and care over the years.
A celebration of Wilbur’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1403 Market St., with visitation one hour prior to the service.
