WILMINGTON — Hettie Marie Coston, 91, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016. She was born in Sampson County on Sept. 22, 1925, to the late Beatty and Mary Gainey.
She was a loving mother and grandmother. She was a member of Sunset Park Baptist Church. Her hobbies were volunteering as an assistant teacher for children with learning disabilities. She also did volunteer work with Meals on Wheels and at the Senior Citizen Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer F. Coston; and two sons, Jimmy and Frank Coston.
She is survived by her sister, Adline Norris of Erwin, N.C.; two sons, Edward Coston, and his wife, Jill, of Roanoke Rapids N.C., and Larry Coston, and his wife, Cecelia, of Wilmington, N.C., and 15 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 5, at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 5, at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service with Pastor Chris Wroten officiating. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Boys Home in Lake Waccamaw or Hospice of Halifax County.
