WILMINGTON — Reba Faye Jones Reese, 80, of Wilmington, died Thursday, Nov. 24, 2016, at home.
Reba was born July 17, 1936, in Trenton, N.C., daughter of the late Becton Jones and Mildred Quinn Jones. A brother, Roger Jones, preceded her in death.
She grew up on a farm in rural Jones County. Her father, Becton, farmed tobacco, corn and soybeans. At the age of 8, Reba was diagnosed with Osteomyelitis, and at that time the doctors said she would not walk again. She proved them all wrong and this showed the family how strong and determined she was. She was brought up as a devout Christian and attended Union Chapel Christian Church (the oldest church in Onslow County).
Reba loved to travel and she and K.D. loved camping with the family. Her favorite pastime was as a wildlife rehabilitator. The animals she loved most were squirrels. She named each one and enjoyed watching them play.
Her favorite hobbies were reading, sewing, cooking and watching the Pittsburgh Steelers play football. Her favorite day was Sunday, and after church all the family had an open invitation to come for Sunday lunch.
She is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, K.D. Reese Sr.; four children, son, Danny Martin (Cathy), daughter, Susan Limbaugh (Ralph), daughter, Sharon Powell, and son, Ken Reese Jr. (Liz), all of Wilmington; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brother, Roy Lee Jones (Janice); sister, Grace Jones; sister-in-law, Catherine Jones; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 28, at Andrews Valley Chapel and the family will greet friends immediately following the service until 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Reba’s memory may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
