WILMINGTON — Dalmah Hughes Sellers, 83, of Wilmington, NC, left this earthly home to move into her Heavenly Home on Nov. 19, 2016, after a short illness.
Born on August 19, 1933, in Chadbourn, NC, to Gordon Elroy Hughes and Flora Ward Hughes (both deceased), she was one of six children. She was preceded in death by all of her siblings: Merle Irene Davis, Pearl Marie Dew, William Aszier “Pete” Hughes, Samuel E. “George” Hughes, Jack Mitchell Hughes.
Dalmah loved her family and is survived by her two sons, Jerry DeWayne Sellers and his wife Holly of Wilmington, and James Keith Sellers and his wife Crissy of Lancaster, SC. She was “Grandma” to five grandchildren, Joe E. Sellers, II and his wife Brooke of Wilmington, Justin C. Sellers of Wilmington, Catherine A. B. Sellers of Houston, TX, Joya B. Sellers of Richmond, VA and Jamie G. Sellers of Anderson, SC. She also had two great-grandchildren, Harper and Hadley Sellers.
In 1959, Dalmah and her then husband, started a small business out of their garage that grew into a business pillar in the Wilmington community: Sellers Tile Co.
Dalmah was a devoted member of Silver Lake Baptist Church, and an avid fan of gospel music. She loved collecting figurines, and most of all, frog figurines. Her sense of humor was exceptional and her ability to make new friends was uncanny. Her favorite pastime was searching for a bargain among all the sales in town.
The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Valley Chapel of the Andrews Mortuary, 4108 S. College Road, Wilmington, NC. Interment will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, 473 Midway Dr., Whiteville, NC.
