WILMINGTON – Wendy Renee Blackwell, 47, went to be with the Lord on Sept. 5, 2016 at her home in Brunswick County, North Carolina. She was the loving mother of Marcus. She was the beloved daughter of Maxine and Robert Blackwell. She was preceded in death by grandparents Alta Baldwin (Byron Tedder) and Joseph and Lannie Blackwell.
She was born in Whiteville, North Carolina, at Columbus County Hospital on Feb. 28, 1969. She became a Christian, was baptized in 1975 and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. She graduated from Whiteville High School in 1987. She graduated from Bladen Community College and worked at several jobs including at the International Paper. Most recently, she was disabled due to several chronic health conditions.
She was a loving, compassionate, and giving person, who never met a stranger. She was humble, tender-hearted, and had a heart of gold. She always had a smile on her face and was known for helping others in need. She enjoyed Ocean Isle Beach, watching movies, and was an avid reader. She will be greatly missed by everyone who loved her.
She is survived by her son, Marcus; her partner, Thomas Black; her parents Maxine and Robert; her sisters, Teresa Blackwell, Robin Hodge (Kerry), April Sherbert (John); nephews, Lance Sherbert, Zackery Sherbert, Jack Myers, and William Hodge; nieces, Grace Sherbert and Emmalee Hodge; special friend, Debora Black. She was also loved by her aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Services will be on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016, at 3 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church on Rough n Ready Road, Whiteville. Visitation will be at the church from 1 -3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Celebrate Recovery at Peace Baptist Church, 653 Love Mill Road, Whiteville, NC 28472.
