John Monroe ‘Captain Fixer’ Corbett Sr., 70, of Leland, passed away early in the morning Sunday, May 1, 2016. He was born on January 17, 1946, in Wilmington, a son of the late Walter Monroe Corbett and Juanita Collins Corbett.
He is survived by his wife, Rachel Watson Corbett; son, John Jr., and daughter-in-law, Karen, of Hayes, Va.; sister, Carolyn Corbett Ezell, who he affectionately called ‘Sis,’ and her husband, George, of Jonesboro, Ark.
He was a dedicated member of Faith Baptist Church and a born-again Christian who loved and followed the Lord. As a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, he was adventurous and loved the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman, scuba diver, commercial pilot, motorcycle rider and loved to travel with his wife, Rachel. He was loved, admired and respected by everyone who knew him, as they affectionately called him ‘Fixer’ for his ability to repair anything that was broken.
Mr. Corbett worked in airframe and powerplant/inspection authorization for aircraft and kept a lot of fellow pilots’ airplanes mechanically sound and safe in the air for many years.
His wife of over 47 years, Rachel, was his soulmate, and you never saw one without the other too far behind.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 5, at Faith Baptist Church, Delco. A graveside service will follow in Oleander Memorial Gardens.
‘I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness’ 2 Timothy 4:7.
