George Richard Futrelle, 65, of Wilmington, died Saturday, March 19, 2016, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice.
Born November 11, 1950, he was the son of the late Andrew S. Futrelle and Kathleen Andrews Futrelle of Wilmington. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his son, George Richard ‘Richie’ Futrelle II; and a brother, Robert M. ‘Mack’ Futrelle.
He had a love for fast cars, fishing, gardening flowers, boating, and most of all, spending time with his family. He is remembered as an amazing father and grandfather who was loved by so many friends and family.
He is survived by his daughter, Jaclyn Futrelle Dwyer, and her husband, Kevin, of Wilmington; granddaughters, Jordyn Dwyer and Addisyn Dwyer; sister, Kathy F. Britt, and her husband, Gerald, of Wilmington; brother, Andy Futrelle, and his wife, Sue, of Newport Square, Pa.; sister-in-law, Judy Futrelle of Southport; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, at Andrews Market Street Chapel. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, at Wesleyan Chapel United Methodist Church, 10255 U.S. 17, Wilmington, NC 28411.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Richard’s name to Lower Cape Fear Hospice 1406 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
