Ray Chestnutt, 88, member of Southside Baptist Church

Ray Chestnutt, 88, left his Wilmington home on Thursday, February 18, 2016, for a heavenly family reunion. Those waiting to welcome him were his parents, Cecil and Effie; his beloved wife, Emily; brothers, Elbert, Norwood, Davis and Howard; and sisters, Edna Lockfaw and Catherine Perdue.

He was born January 16, 1928, in Magnolia. After serving in the U.S. Navy, he moved to Wilmington where he was a barber for many years before joining General Electric in 1972 and retiring in 1993.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 26 years, Frances C. Chandler Chestnutt; his son, Michael, and his wife, Marilyn; daughter, Myra Rochelle, and her husband, David; beloved grandson, Evan Rochelle; sister, Elizabeth Baker of Kinston; and stepsons, Billy and Michael Chandler. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews whom he deeply loved.

He was a member of Southside Baptist Church. Ray was a genuine man who cared deeply for his family and friends.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice or the charity of one’s choice.
