William Everette Kay, 91, of Wilmington passed peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2016.
He was born in Charleston, West Virginia on May 20, 1924.
Bill is preceded in death by the love of his life, Ethel “Lynn Kay.
He is survived by three daughters, Barbara McIlveen, Kathy Rollins (husband Stephen Rollins) and Sandy DiBenedetto (husband Steve DiBenedetto); two sons, Bill Kay (wife Lynn Kay), and Stephen Kay; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three loyal dogs, Skipper, Shadow and Cody.
There’s a time to live and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to pluck what was planted. Bill loved his time among the trees and fresh outdoors. He loved to garden and beautify; after all, he has made this world a more beautiful place.
There was always a happy tune flowing from his lips. He was a loyal partner and family man. He always put a smile upon the biggest frown. He had sunshine, freedom and love radiating from him. He was a friend, a father, a lover, a grandfather, a great-grandfather and a disciple of Christ. Bill met no stranger.
Bill served his country in World War II so that his country could remain the land of the free. He retired as a Major with the US Army Air Corps. William lived a long and hearty life; he taught all well. He will greatly be missed.
A memorial service, followed by military honors, will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 30 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 300 Harper Ave., Carolina Beach, NC 28428, with the Rev. Steve Hall officiating.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bill’s memory may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
