Frank James Scearce Jr., 89, of Leland, went to be with the Lord on Dec. 9, 2015.
He was born in Danville, Virginia on Aug. 17, 1926 to the late Frank James Scearce and Martha Beatrice Pruitt. He is also preceded in death by his grandson, Colby James Scearce.
He proudly served in the U.S. Navy and Army for a total of 24 years. Upon his retirement, he went to work for the U.S. Postal Service for 24 years as a city carrier, where both of his daughters had the honor of seeing Daddy at work. Most important he loved the Lord, Jesus Christ, with all his heart and was in his element playing the guitar and singing in the church choir. He was especially proud when his baby daughter sang with him. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mildred Inez Scearce; daughters, Debbie Scearce Neal and husband Reggie Neal and Katrina Scearce Haynes and husband Keith Haynes; son, Frank James Scearce, III and wife Cathy Scearce; granddaughters, Savanna Scearce Taylor and husband Stephen, Michelle Neal Shuman and husband Harry Shuman; grandson, Robert Neal; great-grandsons, Isaac Gage Taylor, Samuel Taylor, Tony Shuman, Hunter Shuman and Hank Shuman; his beloved sister, Martha Purvis; special friends, Ronald and Barbara Tart and Marshall and Carolyn Thompson and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 15 at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service. A funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at Coble Ward-Smith Funeral Service Chapel, with pastors Phil Frady and William E. Hewett officiating. Interment with military honors will be held at Peace Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery in Winnabow, where he was a member for 37 years.
