Sandra G. Martin, 77, of Wilmington, passed away Friday, Nov. 27, 2015, at her home.
She was born Jan. 9, 1938, in Morganton to the late Leon E. Guigou and Mary Nell Saunders Guigou.
Sandra grew up in Valdese and graduated from Valdese High School. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Queens College in Charlotte. Sandra and her family moved to Wilmington in 1972.
Sandra was a teacher, merchant and office manager, but most of her working years were devoted to her family as a homemaker. She adored and was close to her three grandchildren and took a great interest in their lives, using her wisdom to guide them into their teenage years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
Sandra was an avid reader and enjoyed her book club. She was also a talented bridge player who enjoyed playing with friends. She was a member at First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her husband, Franklin E. Martin; son, David G. Martin and wife Shona F. Martin; daughter, Blair C. Martin; grandchildren, William G., Margaret “Mimi” F. and Caroline W. Martin; sister, Marilee G. Stettler and husband Kenneth O. Stettler; nephew, Scott Stettler and nieces, Dana French and Andrea Martin.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 2 at First Presbyterian Church, 125 S. Third St., Wilmington, NC 28401. The family will receive visitors from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 1 at the residence of David and Shona Martin, 1506 Magnolia Place, Wilmington, NC 28403 and on Wednesday, Dec. 2 immediately following the service, again at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
