Gertrude Lowrance Skipper, 82, visited over 30 countries after age 75

Gertrude Lowrance Skipper, known as Trudy, died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2015, at her home. She was 82.

She was born in Mooresville on July 6, 1933, daughter of the late Samuel Alexander Lowrance and Pearl Robinson Lowrance.

Surviving are her beloved husband of 53 years, David Skipper; children, Tanya Buzzerd and husband Greg, of Bottineau, North Dakota and Larissa Skipper, of Raleigh; grandchildren, Zachary and Anna Buzzerd; and siblings, PY Lowrance and Samuel Lowrance.

She was preceded in death by siblings, Carl Lowrance, Jimmy Lowrance and Alma Oliphant.

Trudy worked as an accountant and legal secretary. She loved to entertain friends and began traveling the world at age 75 and was fortunate enough to visit over 30 countries.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, 2015, at Andrews Mortuary Hampstead Chapel, 17730 U.S. 17 North, Hampstead (910-270-3401). A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015, at Wesleyan Chapel United Methodist Church, Scotts Hill, with the Rev. Karen Howell officiating and assisted by the Rev. Jeff Roberts. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Wesleyan Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 5610 Oak Bluff Lane, Wilmington, NC, 28409 or Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
