Jackie L. Stevens, 67, willing to help anyone in their time of need

Jackie L. Stevens died Sunday, Nov. 8, 2015, at the age of 67.

He was born in Whiteville on Dec. 7, 1947, to J. Ethel and Mattie Stevens.

Jackie retired with 31 years of service from the NC Department of Transportation in Wilmington, where he worked in the signs and services department. Jackie was a true NASCAR fan, especially a fan of Dale Earnhart Sr. (#3). Jackie was well-known and loved by many people and was always willing to help anyone in a time of need. He could fix most anything and was called upon by everyone to help.

Jackie is survived by his daughter, Chris Stevens and fiancé, Johnny Padgett and Chris’ mother, Brenda Harrington; his lifelong companion and mate, Tiny McDaniel and her mother, Frances; a sister, Louise Hobbs; and many special aunts, uncles, extended family, friends and three very special friends, Rudy Howell, Neil Smith and Wayne Hardee.

A celebration of life ceremony will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015, at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel.

To honor Jackie, memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society.
