Nadine Clemmons, formerly of Heritage Park Drive in Wilmington, died Oct. 24, 2015, at the Commons at Brightmore after several years of declining health. She was 82.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2015, at Greenlawn Cemetery. Pastor Kane McKenzie will officiate. The service will be held at the Greenlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum if raining.
Born Nov. 17, 1932, in Brunswick County, she was the daughter of the late Garfield and Minnie Holden Clemmons. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Ruby C. Usher and two nieces, Debra Danford and Sherry D. Cornwell.
Surviving are her sisters, Idell (Ray) C. Cornick, of Temecula, California and Mable (Hugh) C. Danford, of Southport; nieces, Frances S. Roney, of Temecula, California, Jean U. Barricklow, of Oak Island, Carol U. Hardee, of Winnabow and Susan U. Eggert, of Shallotte; nephew, Gregg Danford, of Fuquay-Varina; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
Miss Clemmons graduated as valedictorian from Southport High School in 1953. She almost immediately went to work at Timme Corporation in Wilmington, where she was employed for nearly 30 years as a weaver and loom fixer.
She was a faithful member for 62 years of Olivet Baptist Church, where she served as Sunday school secretary and Vacation Bible School registrar. She is remembered by her nieces and nephew as a playmate who enjoyed softball, pier fishing, jigsaw puzzles, bicycle rides, telling jokes and teasing.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials may be made to Olivet Baptist Church, 138 Glendale Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
