Monnie Garland Love, 94, had a passion for gardening

Monnie Garland Love, of Hampstead, died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2015, at the age of 94.

She was born in Relief but lived most of her life in Erwin. Mrs. Love moved to Hampstead, where she lived with her daughter and son-in-law for the past five years. She was a daughter of the late Nath and Mercy Griffith Garland.

She worked at Southern Pottery from a young age until the pottery closed in 1957. After the pottery closed, she worked at home, where she loved to garden and work in her flowers. Mrs. Love was a member of Love Chapel Christian Church in Erwin for over 70 years. She attended the Christian Church in Wilmington while living with her daughter and son-in-law.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Wayne Love, on March 25, 2009; grandsons, Curtis Banks and Jeff Vaughan; brothers, Earl, Berl and Ross Garland; and sisters, Gertha Gage, Lola Gage and Eula Johnson.

She leaves behind to cherish her memories her daughter, Vivian Vaughan and husband, Charlie, of Hampstead; brother, Lloyd Garland, of Erwin; sister, Marie Branham, of Rockwood, Tennessee; grandchildren, Justin Banks and wife, Georgeanne, of Hampstead, Amelia Banks, of Castle Hayne and Victoria Benhoff, of Wilmington; and great-grandchildren, Aaron and Ashlee Banks, both of Hampstead, Nicole Holliday, of Castle Hayne, Calisa Benhoff, of Wilmington and Chelsea Adkins, of Hilton Head, South Carolina. Mrs. Love was so grateful for her relationships with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved her family dearly. Several nieces and nephews, who loved her as one of their own parents, also survive her.

The family will receive friends from noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015, at Robert Ledford Funeral Home Chapel in Tennessee, followed by funeral services at 1:30 p.m. with Minister Robert Bess officiating. Music will be provided by Inez Chandler. Pallbearers will be men of Love Chapel Christian Church. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memory Gardens, in Johnson City, Tennessee.
