Hubert L. Grissett, 93, 41-year Wave Transit employee, retired

Hubert L. Grissett, affectionately known as “Grand,” died March 11, 2015, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He was 93.

He was born on Dec. 2, 1921, the son of the late William B. Grissett and Carrie Stocks Grissett. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Victoria Somersett Grissett and his brother, Herman Grissett.

Mr. Grissett served in the U.S. Army during WWII and retired from Wilmington Transit (Wave Transit) after 41 years of service.

He is survived by his daughter, Sybil Russ and son-in-law, George Russ, of Wilmington; granddaughter, Kathy Russ, of Raleigh; brothers, Hulon Grissett and Malcolm Grissett, of Brunswick County; sister, Joyce Kirk, of White Plains, Maryland; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 14, 2015, at the Mausoleum at Greenlawn Memorial Park conducted by the Rev. John Misenheimer. The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service.

The family would like to thank the nurses, hospice care team and staff of New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice or a charity of your choice.
