Edward William L. Ledford, 88, remembered for handing out gospel tracts in Southport

Edward William L. Ledford, of Boiling Spring Lakes, died Aug. 20, 2014. He was 88.

He was a faithful servant of God who was concerned for the souls of others. Born in Waynesville, on Jan. 9, 1926, he was the son of the late Delmar E. and Blonnie Ledford. Ed was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in WWII and was a retired lineman. Mr. Ledford was preceded in death by his brother, Lloyd D. Ledford and sister, Florence Anthony.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara and step-children Billy, Anthony and Mickey Simms and Debbie Spinks; a very special niece, Debbie Cunningham; niece, Becky Farless; and nephew, George Anthony.

Mr. Ledford will be remembered by many in the Southport area as “the man who wore an oxygen tank and gave out gospel tracts in Walmart, outside Food Lion and Lowes Foods.”

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 24, 2014, at Sonrise Independent Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services. Interment will be 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 25, 2014, at Salisbury National Cemetery.
