John Christopher Campbell Seymour, 74, served on St. James Landscape Committee and the board of W.A.V.E.S. for Kids

John Christopher Campbell Seymour died at home in his sleep June 3, 2014, at the age of 74.

Mr. Seymour graduated from the Hill School in Pottstown, Pa. in 1957, then completed pre-medical studies at Brown University, graduating in 1961. He received his Doctorate of Medicine from George Washington University Medical School in Washington in 1965.

While in residency at The Washington Hospital Center, Mr. Seymour met Lundy Leigh Sage, a nursing student. The couple married in Washington on Aug. 24, 1963. They celebrated 50 years of marriage last summer in an oceanside celebration that included many family and friends.

Mr. Seymour dedicated his life to serving others. He started as a physician in the U.S. Army in the mid 1960s, serving in Columbus, Ohio. In 1967, Mr. Seymour, his wife and their three small children relocated to Bowie, Md. where he practiced internal medicine in private practice in Chevy Chase, Md., for 15 years before accepting the job as chief medical director of C&P Telephone in Silver Spring, Md.

After working in the corporate world for 10 years, he moved to the scenic eastern shore of Maryland to open a private practice in the town of Chestertown, also joining the staff of Chester River Hospital. He flourished there serving members of the community, including students and faculty from Washington College and the elderly at Heron Point Nursing Home. He was truly loved by all.

After spending 15 years in Chestertown, Mr. Seymour and his wife retired to St. James Plantation, in Southport. He built a lovely house on the 12th hole of a new Jack Nicklaus golf course hoping to play golf for the rest of his days. Years of chronic spine disease left Mr. Seymour unable to play golf, but did not dampen his spirit.

In the last five years, John immersed himself in his community, joining the yacht club, serving on the St. James Landscape Committee and serving on the board of W.A.V.E.S. for Kids, a charity organization serving children of Brunswick County. He had a generous heart and spirit. He loved Doberman pinschers, cooking – mainly desserts, practicing medicine, sailing in the British Virgin Islands, playing golf and helping others wherever he could. He especially loved his wife and the love of his life, Lundy, his children and his many grandchildren. He will be forever missed.

He is survived by his sister, Mary Daniel, of Naples, Fla.; daughter, Mary Lundy Stubs and her husband, Mike, of Dayton, Md.; son, Peter Andrew Campbell Seymour and wife, Heather, of Greenville; son, Thomas Campbell Seymour and his wife, Wendy, of Cape May Courthouse, N.J. He was also the proud grandfather of Katherine Sage, Shannon and Josephine Stubs and Sidra, Lillian, Maya and Campbell Seymour.

He was born July 9, 1939, in London, son of the late Archibald Walter Campbell Seymour and Kathleen Seymour.

A service in celebration of the life of Mr. Seymour will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 7, 2014, at Brunswick Funeral Service. A reception will follow at the Founders Club of St. James Plantation.

Memorials may be made to Waves 4 K.I.D.S., P.O. Box 162 Bolivia, NC 28422.
