A devoted and loving wife, mother, sister and friend, Betty Boswell Oliver found the greatest joy in the simplest aspects of life, the greatest of all in her family.
After a year fighting a courageous battle with breast cancer, Mrs. Oliver died peacefully on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013.
She loved to pass the days reading and watching Fox News when she wasn’t spending time with her family. Everyone around her enjoyed her wit and sense of humor; she was a woman not afraid to speak her mind. She wanted her family to “Remember me not with tears of sorrow, for my destiny is complete and I am smiling.” She left her loved ones a legacy of faith and determined courage.
Mrs. Oliver is preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Laura Robinson Boswell and husband, Joseph Warren Oliver.
She is survived by her daughters, Judy Thompson and Linda Oliver, both of Rocky Point; son, Joseph Oliver and wife, Jennifer, of Urbana, Ohio; grandchildren, Michael Thompson of Rocky Point, Jason Thompson of Burgaw, Eric Pettus of Rocky Point, Joshua Oliver of Visalia, Calif., Donald Thompson of Rocky Point and Jordan Oliver of Urbana, Ohio; nine great-grandchildren; and brother, Charles Boswell of Biloxi, Miss.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home, Burgaw Chapel with the Rev. Nathan Morton officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service.
In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be given in Betty’s memory to New Hanover Regional Medical Center Foundation for the Pink Ribbon Project, 2259 South 17th Street, Wilmington, NC 28401 or to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Attn: Donor Services, PO Box 650309, Dallas, TX 75265-0309.
